Phillippi Joins Cross Country and Track and Field Coaching Staff

Claremore native returns to the Hill to coach the next generation of RSU runners

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State head men's and women's cross country and track and field coach Matt Kennedy has added Blaine Phillippi to the coaching staff ahead of the 2025-26 school year.

"I'm excited to welcome Coach Phillippi back to RSU," Kennedy stated. "He has a deep passion for this university and a genuine investment in the success of our student-athletes. Blaine brings great energy, a strong work ethic, and a clear commitment to developing this program the right way—both athletically and academically. He's the perfect fit for our staff and our mission."

Phillippi, a standout student-athlete for the Hillcats from 2020 to 2024, achieved 10 top 15 finishes and received several academic honors, including the MIAA Academic Excellence Award and recognition from the DII Athletics Directors Association.

"Joining the coaching staff at Rogers State is truly a full-circle moment for me," Phillippi commented. "As a Claremore native and former RSU athlete, this program has always held a special place in my heart. I am honored to return in this new role and give back to the university and community that helped shape who I am. I'm excited to support our student-athletes and help carry forward the proud tradition of Hillcat excellence."

Following graduation, Phillippi took the role of assistant coach for cross country and distance track at NCAA Division I Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. In this position, he gained valuable experience in training management and recruitment.

Phillippi holds a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Fitness Management from RSU and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Sports Administration.

A native of Claremore, Oklahoma, Phillippi was a prep standout at Claremore High School and is married to former Hillcat runner Gloria (Butts) Phillippi.
