SAACRogers State University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Mission Statement

The Rogers State University Hillcat Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's (SAAC) mission is to foster open communication between student-athletes and the athletic department administration, and to enhance the student-athlete experience by developing leadership skills, promoting a positive student-athlete image, and improving the day-to-day life of all student-athletes through activities, social events, and community service
 

RSU SAAC Strategic Plan

Goals of the SAAC
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee serves as a liaison between the administration and the entire student-athlete population. The committee has many goals and purposes, including, but not limited to the following:

 
  1. Serve as a forum for discussion to address any student-athlete concerns and issues.
  • Work to enhance the general welfare of the student-athlete. The RSU SAAC strives to be a positive representation and voice for RSU athletics.
  • Encourage campus and conference SAACs to establish mentoring as a priority that provides academic support to student-athletes and future student-athletes.
  • Participate in the NCAA National SAAC Initiative. 
  • Present SAAC's mission statement and summary of activities it promotes to all student-athletes.
 
  1. Improve overall communication with the University, Conference, and NCAA Division II.
  • Student-athletes are encouraged to participate in reviewing athletic department policies included in the student-athlete handbook, gender equity plan, and missed class policy, and offer feedback to the administration.
  • Represent the RSU SAAC at the conference and national levels.
  • Review new NCAA legislation and offer votes to the MIAA SAAC with clear reasoning.
  • Ensure student-athletes are active participants in the governance of NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics at the conference and national levels.
  • Encourage student-athlete understanding of and involvement in legislation at the conference level and include a student-athlete representative at MIAA business sessions.
  • Enhance student-athlete communication and awareness of the mission of SAAC.
  • Establish methods for inter-SAAC communication (i.e. list-serve, monthly minutes, job descriptions/responsibilities, etc.), while encouraging greater involvement with national issues and legislation.
 
  1. To be the liaisons between student-athletes and the coaching staff, faculty, administration, student body, and the surrounding community.
  • Strive to ensure that each sport is represented and has an equal voice on the campus SAAC.
  • Actively engage our faculty athletic representative, coaching staff, and athletic administrators in the workings of the campus SAAC.
 
  1. To develop a positive student-athlete image on campus and in the community through involvement in campus and community projects and demonstrate social responsibility.
  • Plan and implement more community engagement and community service events.
  • Meet the institution and conference Make-A-Wish monetary goal.
  • Help the athletic department with sport marketing to get more fan support.
  • Encourage student-athletes to attend all home athletic contests, when possible.
  • Give back to the community.
  • SAAC is active in numerous philanthropic activities throughout the school year.
  • SAAC ensures that RSU athletics and the MIAA is positively represented on campus and in the surrounding communities.
 
  1. Promote an atmosphere within SAAC that encourages and welcomes unity among all student-athletes.
  • Strive to ensure that each sport is represented and has an equal voice on the campus SAAC.
  • Actively engage our faculty athletic representative, coaching staff, and athletic administrators in the workings of the campus SAAC.
  • Promote an understanding of the role of the NCAA Division II student-athlete.
