Morales Ties Single-Game Strikeout Record As Rogers State Splits Doubleheader At NSU

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Rogers State softball picked up a doubleheader split against Northeastern State on Saturday at RiverHawks Park.
 
GAME ONE

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless first inning, Northeastern State took the lead in the second inning with a solo homerun by Addy Wolfe in the bottom of the second.
  • The Hillcats answered back and tied the game in the top of the third as Makayla Bowman singled up the middle to bring Sabrina Anguiano around for Rogers State's first run.
  • Later in the inning, Danelle Day hit a sacrifice fly to right, bringing Tailee Reding in from third to give the Hillcats a 2-1 lead.
  • After the RiverHawks answered with another solo home run off the bat of Rhomie Bradshaw in the bottom of the third, Brielle Tyseling hit an RBI single to left to score Jaylan Gibson and put Rogers State back in front for good.
  • For the second time in the game, Andrea Morales tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the fourth, striking out the side in the process. Morales would allow just one baserunner in the fifth and sixth.
  • Elexis Watson gave the Hillcats some insurance runs in the seventh with a two-RBI single to score Rylee DeLozier and Jackie Zaferes to put Rogers State up 5-2.
Game Notes
  • Morales tied a school record, and set an NCAA era record, with 16 strikeouts in the game, matching a 16-strikeout performance from Amanda Hanner against Friends University on March 14, 2006.
  • The previous career high for Morales was 13 strikeouts, done three times, including Tuesday against Arkansas Tech.
  • Morales finished the week with 29 strikeouts in 14 innings of work.
  • Bowman, Gibson and Watson all finished with two hits in the game. Gibson also had one of four Hillcat walks.
  • Anguiano and Allie McFetridge each had a walk and a hit in the game.
  • Rogers State outhit the RiverHawks 9-4 and also had four walks to just two for NSU.

How It Happened
  • The Hillcats fell behind in the bottom of the first as Addie Elbon hit a two-run homerun for Northeastern State in the bottom of the first.
  • The RiverHawks would add three more runs in the second inning to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
  • Lana Gass would get the Hillcats on the scoreboard in the top of the third, as she led off the inning with a solo homerun over the fence in right center.
  • Tailee Reding would come in from center field and pitch scoreless innings in the third and fourth.
  • Courtney Hill pitched the final two innings for the Hillcats, allowing just one baserunner on a walk with two strikeouts.
Game Notes
  • The Hillcats were outhit 11-7 in the game and had just two walks.
  • Tyseling was perfect at the plate in game two, going 2-for-2 with a walk.
  • Gass and McFetridge also had two hits each.
  • M'Kayla Hillman fell to 6-4 in the circle on the year, giving up five runs on six hits in two innings. She finished with two strikeouts.
  • Gass hit her second career homerun after hitting her first last Friday at Pittsburg State on April 9.
  • Tyseling recorded her first career multi-hit game and finished the day 3-for-5 with a walk at the plate.
Up Next
Rogers State will be back in action next week with the final road trip of the regular season. The Hillcats will travel to Hays, Kansas to take on Fort Hays State on April 23. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
