WICHITA, Kan. – The Rogers State Women's Soccer team dropped its MIAA opener on Sunday in heart-breaking fashion, giving up a penalty kick in the first overtime to fall at Newman 1-0.
The Hillcats battled with host Newman for over 97 minutes at Wilkins Field, with neither team able to find the breakthrough until the hosts were awarded a penalty kick at 97:27 in the first overtime for a handball by defender

Newman's Kennedy Weaver would step up and score the penalty kick to win the game for the hosts.
Both teams would have chances in the game, but Newman would outshoot the Hillcats 15-7, including 3-0 in the overtime period.
ReVella Fisher would come up with three saves in the first half, followed by two in the second half and one more in the overtime period.
Sydney Connelly would have the only shot on target for the Hillcats in the first half, testing Jackie Lari from long range with a shot to the lower left corner.
Kori Watters would have a chance late in the second half, but her shot from near the top of the box would be stopped by Lari in the middle of the goal.
Maggie Brown would have a long-range effort to the upper right corner stopped in the 86
th minute, the final shot on target for the Hillcats in the game.
Rogers State will return home to Claremore for the first of four-straight games at home, all in MIAA play, beginning on Friday, October 4. The Hillcats will start off the home stretch by welcoming in Missouri Southern. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Soldier Field.
