OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team pushed its winning streak to 20 games on Tuesday afternoon with a twin bill sweep over Sooner Athletic Conference foe Mid-America Christian at Jack Allen Field.
The Hillcats smacked 22 hits in the doubleheader with 13 of them coming in game one where the Hillcats tallied a 12-1 win in the five-inning run-rule. In the nightcap, RSU used a four-run sixth to seal the 6-1 victory.
GAME ONE
The Hillcats got a quick start, plating three runs in the opening frame. Cailin Simpson hit a one-out single to right field and Candace Monigold followed with a home run belted over the right field fence. Katrina Loy smashed a double and scored on a dropped fly ball.
With the bases loaded in the second frame, Jamie King hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, sending Desiree Ayarzagoitia home. Simpson tallied a RBI single to push the Cats' lead to 5-0. A six-run third put the game out of reach for the Lady Evangels. Taran Threet led off the inning with a solo shot over the left-center field fence. King registered a RBI double, Simpson belted a two RBI single while Monigold rounded out the scoring with her second two-run home run of the game.
After a scoreless fourth, the Hillcats tacked on one final run in the fifth with a RBI single by Simpson. The Evangels avoided the shutout in the bottom of the inning with a RBI single by Amanda Stevenson.
Laura Fleck tallied the complete game win for RSU. She allowed one run on five hits with three strikeouts in five innings of work. Three MACU pitchers saw time in the circle with starter Kelcie Wolf taking the loss. She tossed 2.1 innings and allowed 11 runs, nine earned, on 11 hits with one strikeout.
Simpson went 4-for-4 with four RBIs in the contest to lead RSU.
GAME TWO
RSU left a runner stranded in both the first and second inning before denting the scoreboard in the top of the third frame. Ashlie Fauchier led off the inning with a single and scored on a double by King. Simpson drove King home with a RBI ground out to give the Hillcats a 2-0 advantage.
MACU cut the Hillcat lead in half in the fifth with a RBI single by Kaylee Henton. However, RSU secured some breathing room with a four–run sixth. With bases loaded King belted a double to centerfield, allowing all three runs to score. Simpson followed with a RBI single to send King home and give RSU a 6-1 lead.
Fleck (11-0) went the distance in the circle for the Cats, allowing one run on seven hits. Amber Tinney was tagged with loss for the Lady Evangels as she allowed four runs on six hits.
Rogers State (20-0) will round out the season series against the Lady Evangels on Thursday as the Cats host them in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live.
