Hillcat Women Net Five versus Falcons

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer maintained the momentum as the Hillcats downed the Falcons of the University of Texas-Permian Basin in a 5-0 victory Saturday at Soldier Field.

RSU coming off a 1-1, double overtime draw versus Missouri Southern Wednesday built upon the midweek success by putting the blitz on UTPB. Coach Derek Larkin's squad outshot the Falcons 18-11.

Melissa Subu got the Hillcats going early as the senior found the back of the net off a deflection slotting the ball past the goal keeper in the sixth minute.

RSU didn't strike again until the 36th minute as a Blair Thomas corner kick found the head of freshman Kealani Chaidez and the Las Vegas, Nevada native finished strong to the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. The goal was the freshman forward's first of the season.

Sand Springs, Okla. native Taylor Hallford delivered a pair of goals in the second half of play. The sophomore scored off a corner kick for her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute. She later scored the fifth goal for RSU in the game in the 71st minute finding the back of the net from 18 yards out as the Falcon goalkeeper misplayed the Hallford shot.

RSU leading scorer Tara Garrett poked in a goal past the charging goalkeeper from 18 yards away while fighting off a UTPB defender giving the Claremore, Okla. native her team high seventh goal of the year.

Senior Jordan Harris tallied seven saves in her 74:45 of action before giving way to freshman Teri Cocke for the final 15:15 of play as the young keeper pulled in one save. Texas-Permian Basin (2-11-0, 1-3-0) saw Bridget Equivel receive the loss in goal as she allowed all five RSU goals and totaled four saves.

Rogers State (2-9-1, 1-4-0) will host Lubbock Christian University at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Heartland Conference action. Live video streaming will be provided on the Hillcat Network (www.rsuhillcats.com/live).
