Hillcats Earn Draw with Lions, 1-1

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Rogers State women's soccer team battled to a, 1-1, double overtime tie at Missouri Southern State on Wednesday night.

The Hillcats fired three shots on goal in the opening stanza but the Lions kept RSU off the scoreboard. RSU goalkeeper Jordan Harris tallied six saves in the opening half helping the Hillcats to a 0-0 tie at the break.

In the second frame, RSU struck first in the 71st minute as Tara Garrett blasted the ball past the goalkeeper from 40 yards out.  It was the Claremore, Okla. native's team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The Lions battled back to knot the score in the 88th minute as Dana Wilhelm slotted the ball in the corner of the goal, sending the game into overtime.

RSU tallied one shot in overtime while the Lions tallied five but neither team found the back of the net, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

Harris tallied 16 saves for the Hillcats while Beth Hammons and Abby Risner split time in goal for MSSU, combining for five saves.

Rogers State (1-9-1) will return to action on Saturday as the Hillcats host the University of Texas-Permian Basin at Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcat.com/live.
