CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team needed a goal from senior Tiffany Roberts in the 101st minute of play to secure a 3-2 victory over Bethel College (Kan.) on Tuesday evening at Soldier Field.
Roberts blast the ball from 20-yards out past Bethel goalkeeper Savannah Longoria in double-overtime to win the game.
The Hilcats opened the game with an early lead. Demi Mullin, a freshman from Claremore, Okla., found the ball at her feet just inside the goal box after a defensive deflection. She then buried the ball in the net on the near side to give RSU a 1-0 lead.
Roberts increased the Hillcats lead in the 73rd minute dribbling past the defense and beating the Bethel goalkeeper near post to give RSU a 2-0 lead.
The Threshers battled back late in the game to knot the score 2-2. In the 82nd minute Nakita Menefee crossed the ball to the middle of the box where Megan Schrock headed the ball past RSU freshman goalkeeper Chelsea Mullin to cut the Hillcats lead in half.
Menefee recorded the tying goal just three minutes later. Renicia Yoder used a free kick to cross the ball to the back side of the box for Menefee to run onto and head into the goal.
McMullin allowed two goals while making seven saves and earned her third win of the year in goal. The Hillcats (3-0) are back in action at Soldier Field on Saturday, September 18th with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
