LUBBOCK, Texas - Rogers State was unable to match the speed and the depth of No. 11 Lubbock Christian Saturday as the Lady Chaparrals posted a 78-54 victory at the Rip Griffin Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Â
LCU utilized its bench and transition offense to pull away from the Hillcats late in the first half. Shamika Singleton scored a game-high 18 points off the bench as the Lady Chaps reserves outscored the RSU bench, 34-8.
Â
A 10-0 run gave LCU a 31-14 lead with 5:50 to play in the first half. Sophomore Katie Rice did her best to keep the Cats in it by scoring the final seven points of the half for her team. She tied a career high with 20 points and also added eight rebounds, but it wasn't nearly enough for RSU. Singleton keyed a 14-2 run early in the second period that allowed the Lady Chaps to put the game on cruise control over the final 15 minutes.
Â
Ashley Coggins joined Singleton in double figures with 11 points while Jordan Hampton, Bailey St. Clair and Sierra Lovorn each tallied nine. Azzie Knox recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. However, no other RSU player reached double figures and the Cats were held to just one 3-point field goal on the afternoon.
Â
Rogers State (13-9, 7-7) remains in sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings following the loss. The Hillcats return home next week to face Oklahoma Christian Thursday night at the Claremore Expo. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Public Television and RSU Radio 91.3 FM. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a free rally rag courtesy of the RSU athletic department.
