RSU Women Edge Lady Eagles, 55-52

CLAREMORE, Okla. - Rogers State snapped its three-game losing skid with a hard fought 55-52 victory over Oklahoma Christian Thursday night at the Claremore Expo.

The Hillcats eclipse their win total from the 2007-08 inaugural campaign with their 14th victory of the season. Sophomore Katie Rice scored a game-high 16 points while senior Azzie Knox posted her sixth double-double of the year with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

RSU leapt out to a 20-11 lead at the midway point of the first half after Sophia Piggie knocked down a wing 3-pointer. The Hillcats shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and held a 26-21 advantage at the intermission.

The Lady Eagles closed to within one point with 9:26 to play on a bucket by Kailan DeCamp. However, RSU methodically pushed the margin back to eight with seven consecutive points at the free throw line and held a two possession lead until the final minute. Lisa Chenoweth's trey in the waning seconds made the final margin of victory three points.

Brittney Kennedy led OC with 13 points and five rebounds and Chenoweth chipped in with 10 points. The Lady Eagles 3-point shooting kept them in the contest most of the night as they combined for seven baskets from beyond the arc. RSU went just 2-for-11 from 3-point-range but still managed to shoot 43 percent from the floor overall.

The Hillcats claimed a 32-23 rebounding advantage and forced OC into 24 turnovers with 11 steals. Knox led the squad with three thefts and also added three assists to her totals.

Rogers State (14-9, 8-7) maintained sole possession of sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings with the victory. The Hillcats will travel to Alva, Okla., Saturday to face Northwestern Okla. State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
