Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hillcats Roll Past Lady Rangers, 64-56

ALVA, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team closed out a 2-0 week with a 64-56 road victory Saturday night over Northwestern Okla. State in Alva.

The Hillcats torched the nets with a spectacular shooting effort. RSU shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half to build a 40-28 halftime lead. The Lady Rangers attempted to climb their way back into the contest by outscoring the Cats, 28-24 in the second frame but ultimately came up short.

Surprisingly, it was the Hillcats deadly aim from downtown that put them over the top. RSU has struggled from 3-point range in recent weeks. However, the Cats found their stroke inside Percefull Fieldhouse, knocking down 10-of-16 attempts from behind the arc.

Junior Autumn Thompson scored a game-high 19 points and went 3-for-3 from long distance. She also dished out a game-high five assists. Sophomore Hunter Peterson buried 5-of-8 3-point attempts and finished with 17 points.

Forwards Katie Rice and Azzie Knox received a much deserved night off from carrying the scoring load for RSU. Knox hauled in 17 rebounds and scored five points while Rice scored nine points on 3-of-3 shooting.

Northwestern struggled to find the basket all night. The Rangers shot 33 percent from the floor in both halves and went just 2-for-11 from behind the arc. D'Shanna Butler led Northwestern with 15 points.

Rogers State (15-9, 9-7) earned its second consecutive win and remains in sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. The Hillcats return home Thursday night to face No. 14 Southern Nazarene at the Claremore Expo. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Public Television and RSU Radio 91.3 FM. The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a free Hillcat Koozie courtesy of the RSU athletic department.
