Flying Queens Quiet RSU Women, 79-51

PLAINVIEW, Texas - Rogers State couldn't shake loose from Wayland Baptist's stifling defense as the Flying Queens avenged their December loss to the Hillcats with a 79-51 victory Thursday night at the Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas.

WBU held the Cats to just 29 percent shooting and 12 total field goals on the night. The Queens also wrangled fifth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings from RSU with the win. Rose Ouma led four players in double figures for WBU with 17 points. Alex Williams and Jessica Walker scored 15 while Staci Murphree added 14. The Flying Queens bench outscored the Hillcat reserves 37-8.

RSU led 13-10 in the early going before the Queens erupted for a 15-0 run. Azzie Knox brought the Hillcats back to within 25-20 with a pair of free throws but WBU answered by closing the half on a 19-4 streak. The Flying Queens quickly pushed the lead over 20 and led comfortably throughout the second half.

Knox led RSU with 17 points and seven rebounds. Hunter Peterson was the only other Hillcat player to reach double figures with 11 points. WBU dominated the boards to the tune of a 43-26 advantage and forced 25 turnovers, including 15 steals. The Flying Queens won for the sixth time in their last eight games and are in the midst of a season-long seven-game homestand.

Rogers State (13-8, 7-6) fell to sixth place in the conference standings and will have one day off before facing No. 11 Lubbock Christian at the Rip Griffin Center Saturday afternoon. Tip-off from Lubbock, Texas, is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the game will be carried live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
