Slow Second Half Dooms Hillcats in Loss to Chaps, 59-44

LUBBOCK, Texas - For the second game in a row Rogers State put itself in position to upset a ranked opponent before sluggish shooting in the second half erased the opportunity.

Trailing by only four points at halftime, the Hillcats shot just 26-percent in the second half and fell 59-44 on the road to No. 17 Lubbock Christian at the Rip Griffin Center Thursday night.

The Lady Chaps outpaced the Cats 31-20 in the second half as Carolyn Manning led all scorers with 21 points. Manning converted 11-of-12 free throw attempts and added eight rebounds to an impressive stat line. Jordan Hampton chipped in with 13 points on 4-of-4 shooting from 3-point range. LCU kept its perfect home record intact and improved to 8-0 at the Rip Griffin Center on the season.

RSU couldn't seem to get things going on offense. Tasha Parker was the lone bright spot for the Hillcats as she posted a season-high 13 points. Azzie Knox nearly recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds and eight points. However, freshmen Hayley KnifeChief and Katie Rice were held to just five points apiece. KnifeChief was held scoreless in the second half. The Hillcats went 0-for-4 from 3-point range and 4-for-9 from the free throw line after the break.

Rogers State (11-11, 7-7) dropped back to .500 overall and in conference play but remains alone in sixth place in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings. The Hillcats will complete their two-game trek through the Lone Star state when they face Wayland Baptist Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. and the game can be heard live on RSU Radio 91.3 FM
