Hillcats Achieve Four Top 10 Finishes on Closing Day of 2026 MIAA Outdoor Championships

RSU concluded action in Pittsburg on Sunday afternoon

PITTSBURG, Kan. – RSU Track and Field concluded the 2026 outdoor season Sunday afternoon at the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Pitt State Outdoor Track Facility, competing in the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter events.
 
Nathaneal Gibson led the men's team with a fifth-place finish in the 1500 meters, clocking a time of 3:54.09 and earning four points for the team. Blake Feron followed, securing 19th place with a time of 4:04.14.
 
In the men's 5000 meters, Nathan Hernandez finished 17th with a time of 15:30.63, while Jack Morgan placed 19th at 15:45.92. Teammates Cohen McIntosh, Aidan Jimenez, and Clint Stapleton completed the lineup, finishing 23rd, 25th and 26th with times of 15:52.56, 15:55.77 and 15:59.65, respectively.
 
For the women, Sisely Mitchell was the top finisher in the 1500 meters, placing ninth with a time of 4:47.35. Cadence Cordova followed closely in 10th at 4:47.72 and Kenzie Gilliam finished 21st in 5:04.43.
 
In the women's 5000 meters, Brooklyn Garafola captured eighth place, finishing in 17:47.07 and earning one team point. Kaylee Nay (17th, 18:25.79), Emily Cruz (19th, 18:30.36), Audrey McElhaney (23rd, 18:53.90), Brooke Martin (25th, 19:09.19) and Kiera Blumhof (26th, 19:20.25) also contributed to the team's overall performance.
 
Junior Cade McCall earned the prestigious 2026 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field "A Game" Scholar-Athlete honor following the meet. This award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating in the MIAA Championship.
 
This marks the conclusion of the RSU track and field season. The Hillcats will bid farewell to seniors Ian Conder, Isaac Conder, Cadence Cordova, Blake Feron, Nathaneal Gibson, Nathan Hernandez, Phillip Owens and Colton Storm.
