CLAREMORE, Okla. — Senior
Harley Culie's historic no-hitter highlighted RSU Softball's (34-18, 14-10 MIAA) doubleheader split against Northeastern State (28-22, 12-12 MIAA) on Senior Day Saturday at the RCB Bank Sports Complex. RSU took game one 3-1 in extra innings with a walk-off home run before dropping game two 5-0.
Before the game, the Hillcats celebrated Culie and
Raelle Gorman for their contributions to the team. Culie, who was an All-MIAA Second Team pick in 2025 and leads the MIAA and ranks in the top 10 nationally this season in strikeouts, has been a vital part of RSU's pitching staff for four seasons. Gorman made an immediate impact in her first season as a starter after transferring in at break, having come from a distinguished career at Pace University, where she competed in both softball and cross country.
GAME ONE: RSU 3, NSU 1 (8 INNINGS)
RSU showcased a dominant pitching performance, with Culie (18-9) leading the way. The Peggs, Oklahoma, native pitched 8.0 innings without allowing a hit to secure the longest no-hitter outing in program history. Additionally, her 14 strikeouts were just one shy of a career high, and she sat down seven straight batters at one point - only three K's from tying Andrea Morales record of 10 in 2019. Notably, she combined with Sara Llamas-Howell for the last no-hitter back on March 30, 2024, against Lincoln.
Mariah Belzer (5) provided the Hillcats with a lead in the fourth inning with a solo home run to left field, making it 1-0. The score was tied in the seventh inning when Mia Sarwinski scored on a throwing error after advancing to third on a bunt. However, the Hillcats secured the win in the eighth inning when Gorman singled to second base, followed by
Jaden Jordan (12), who hit a walk-off two-run homer to left field, bringing the final score to Rogers State 3, Northeastern State 1.
GAME TWO: RSU 0, NSU 5
In the second game, the Hillcats struggled offensively and defensively, managing just three hits and committing three errors over seven innings.
The RiverHawks struck first in the fifth inning with an RBI double by Ashlynn Turner, scoring Megan Fultz, who was pinch-running for Madison Nance. They extended their lead with three more runs in the sixth inning, capitalizing on throwing errors and a groundout, making the score 4-0. In the seventh inning, the RiverHawks added another run, bringing the final score to 5-0.
Kinsley Hill (13-6) pitched a complete game for RSU, going 7.0 innings with six hits allowed, three walks and five strikeouts.
Jordan contributed one hit, while Belzer and
Baylee King also added hits to the offensive effort.
