Hillcats Return To Super Regionals With Win Over Southern Nazarene On Championship Saturday

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State softball (46-10) claimed their second Central Regional Championship in three seasons with a 4-0 win over Southern Nazarene (40-17) on Saturday.

After two scoreless innings to start things, the Hillcats got on the board first in the third inning as Kaylee Lyon worked the count full with two outs. On the sixth pitch, she unloaded on the ball sending it screaming over the left wall for a no-doubt, solo home run to give RSU a 1-0 lead.

They tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth as Bridgett Morales laced a one-out double through the left side of the infield. Chelsea Spain blasted a 3-1 pitch down the left field line for a single that drove in Morales from second.

The Hillcats put the game away with two runs in the sixth inning for the 4-0 win. Morales reached first on a fielder's choice to second and later advanced to second on a wild pitch. Spain and Paxton Donaldson loaded the bases with two out, back-to-back walks. McKayla Carney singled to center field and brought in both Morales and Spain.

Sara Llamas-Howell (23-6) earned the complete game shutout as she scattered five hits with four strikeouts. Katelyn Woodard (3-5) took the loss.

With the win, RSU has earned the right to stay at home and host No. 4 seed Augustana (who won the Pittsburg State Regional earlier today) in the best-of-three Super Regionals beginning on Tuesday, May 14. First pitch for game one is set for 12 p.m. at the Diamond Sports Complex.
