CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State softball (46-11) tried to mount a late comeback against Augustana (49-13) but came up short 3-2 in the first game of the NCAA Super Regionals on Tuesday.

After a scoreless first frame, the Vikings jumped on the board with a 2-0 lead in the second inning. With a one-out walk and a single to center to put two runners on, a single deep down the right field line scored the game's first run from second. A sacrifice fly to right brought in the second run.

Augie added an insurance run in the top of the fourth to go up 3-0 as a run scored from second on a fielding error by the third baseman.

The Hillcat offense began to wake up in the bottom of the sixth as
Paxton Donaldson battled an 11-pitch at bat, including eight foul balls, to blast a double to center on pitch 12.
McKayla Carney traded places with her as she laced a her own double to right, bringing in Donaldson. She then reached third on a wild pitch.
Abbey Rogers put the Hillcats on the board as she drove in Carney with a RBI groundout to second. Unfortunately, the rally would end with RSU still down 3-2.

Neither side could get anything going in a scoreless seventh inning, giving the Vikings the game one win.

Grace Glanzer (27-3) earned the complete game win.
Sara Llamas-Howell (23-7) took the loss.

The Hillcats will fight to keep their season alive in game two tomorrow at the Diamond Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. with the if necessary game set for 2:30 p.m.
