RSU Drops 63-42 Game To Bearcats

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (6-7, 1-6 MIAA) fell to Northwest Missouri (12-2, 6-2 MIAA) in a 63-42 game on Saturday.
 
Alayzha Knapp led the Hillcats with 10 points as well as three rebounds and two assists. Kaya Goldsby finished with seven points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. Both Alyza Aikins and Breanna Fowler contributed five points apiece. Aikins added a team-high six rebounds with an assist and a steal while Fowler added three rebounds.
 
After Aikins scored on the first possession of the game, the Bearcats outscored RSU 14-4 in the rest of the opening quarter. The Hillcats found their footing in the final 10 minutes of the half and slowly began to chip into the deficit. With just under six minutes left in the period, RSU ripped off a 12-2 run to tie the game at 20-20. However, a made free throw late in the quarter gave Northwest a 21-20 advantage going into the break.
 
The second half was all Bearcats as they opened the half on an 8-0 run to go 29-20. They eventually outscored the Hillcats 20-5 in the third period. Northwest managed to push their lead out to its largest at 60-31 with 3:36 left in the game. However, RSU kept fighting down the stretch and closed out the game on an 11-3 run to trim the final score down to 63-42.
 
The Hillcats will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 10 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. to face off against Newman. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
