WICHITA, Kan.– Rogers State women's basketball (7-7, 2-6 MIAA) took care of business in a 64-52 win over Newman (2-13, 1-8 MIAA) on Wednesday.

Three Hillcats finished in double figures in the win.
Alayzha Knapp led all scorers with 15 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Alyza Aikins added 14 points, five rebounds and a steal.
Destiny Jones put up 13 points with a team-high six rebounds and an assist.
Kamryn Estell contributed nine points off the bench with five rebounds and an assist.

The game was a back-and-forth affair in the early goings as the two teams traded shots out of the opening tip with four lead changes and two ties in the first three and half minutes. The Hillcats began to pull away with an 8-0 run to go up 14-6 and eventually carried an 18-12 lead into the second quarter.

In the final 10 minutes of the half, the Jets began to find their footing as they started the period on a 5-2 run to get the lead back down to a single possession at 20-17. However, RSU quickly responded by running out to a 15-2 run to take a 35-19 lead into the break.

Newman kept battling as they opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run to trim the deficit to single digits at 35-26. The Hillcats again answered with an 8-3 run of their own to push back out to a 43-29 advantage. They eventually carried a 47-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

RSU took their largest lead of the game with four quick points to start the final period and go up 51-33. The Jets tried to mount a comeback as they were able to cut the lead to nine points at 61-52 with less than two minutes, but the Hillcats held them at bay and went on for the 64-52 win.

RSU will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 13 as they travel to Edmond, Okla. to face off against Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
