TOPEKA, Kan. – Rogers State women's soccer (4-3-2, 2-1 MIAA) came up short in a hard fought 1-0 game against Washburn (8-1, 2-0 MIAA) on Friday.
Â
Tiffany Brittan (3-3) made two saves while allowing one goal.
Â
The Ichabods wasted no time going on the offensive attack as they tested Brittan and the Hillcat defense early in the game taking five shots, one on target, in the first 12 minutes. Things began to settle in after that with Washburn outshooting RSU 8-1 in the period with two shots on goal compared to one. After 45 minutes, both teams headed into the break deadlocked in a scoreless affair.
Â
The second half looked to be more of the same heavy defensive effort from the end of the opening period as both sides only took four combined shots in the first 29 minutes of the half with two shots apiece. In the 79th minute, the Ichabods broke the stalemate with an unassisted shot that got through to give Washburn a 1-0 lead. The Hillcats made one last try to equalize in the 87th minute as
Jada Lopez fired in a shot, but unfortunately the Ichabod keeper made a save on the ball.
Â
RSU will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 1 as they travel to Emporia, Kan. to face off against Emporia State. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
