SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Rogers State women's soccer (1-0) opened the 2023 season with a 1-0 win over Sioux Falls (0-1) on the road on Friday.
Â
Alix Tirado netted her first goal as a Hillcat scoring the game winner, while
Morgan Martucci earned the assist.
Tiffany Brittan (1-0) recorded her first clean sheet of the season in goal with six saves.
Â
The Cougars applied some offensive pressure to start the match as they took five shots and earned three corner kicks in the first 20 minutes. However, the Hillcats began to reverse the pressure as they were able to get off three shots on goal and earn a corner kick of their own in span of three minutes shortly after. They finally broke through in the 33rd minute as Tirado found the back of the net off a pass from Martucci to end the stalemate.
Â
RSU came out of the locker room on the attack as they got off two shots on goal and earned a corner kick in the first 10 minutes. From there, the Hillcats defense smothered USF and outshot them 6-5 in the period, with two shots on goal to one.
Â
RSU will wrap up the season-opening road trip on Sunday, Sept. 3 as they stay in Sioux Falls to face off against Augustana. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
