WICHITA, Kan. – No. 21 Rogers State baseball (9-3, 0-2 MIAA) fell 14-9 in the second game of the series to Newman (6-6, 2-0 MIAA) on Saturday.

The Hillcats wasted no time getting on the board, pushing across three runs in the top of the first.
AJ Folds led off the game with a single to right and proceeded to steal second.
Gavin Mestas earned a walk and stole second with Folds scoring on a throwing error by the catcher.
Jesse Holguin doubled to left center to bring in Mestas. A single to right by
Joel Escalante put runners at the corners with one out.
Andrew Howard walked to load the bases. A sacrifice fly from
Geovanni Blackshaw scored Holguin.

The Jets answered in the home half of the inning with four runs to take a 4-3 lead. The first run came in on a RBI double to right center with the other three runs coming on a three-run blast over the left field wall.

RSU took the lead back with three more runs in the second inning to go back up 6-4. Folds doubled to center with one out and advanced to third on a Mestas fly out to center.
Prescott Horn walked and then stole second to put runners in scoring position with two outs. Holguin reached first and Folds scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. Escalante drove in Horn and Holguin with a double to left center.

Newman exploded for five runs in the bottom half to push back in front 9-6. The first two runs scored on a RBI single to center with the final three runs crossing home on another three-run homer to left.

The Hillcats got a run back in the top of the third to trim the deficit to 9-7 as Blackshaw led off the inning with a walk.
Carson Cheatwood walked to put runners on first and second. A wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position with a passed ball on the next pitch plating Blackshaw.

The Jets added to their lead with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 11-7. Both runs scored on separate RBI singles to left center.

RSU trimmed the margin down to 11-9 with two runs in the top of the sixth. Folds reached first on an error by the shortstop with one out. Mestas brought him home with a two-run shot to left center.

Newman got a run back in the home half of the frame to push back out to 12-9. The run scored on a RBI double to center.

They sealed the 14-9 win with two final runs in the bottom of the eighth. The first run scored on a RBI fielder's choice while the second run scored on a RBI single to right.

Asher Finke (1-1) earned the win.
Giancarlo Cortez (1-1) took his first loss of the season.

The Hillcats will look to avoid the sweep in the series finale tomorrow. First pitch is set for 1p.m.
