EDMOND, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (4-21, 2-17 MIAA) fought hard but came up short 78-69 against Central Oklahoma (9-14, 6-13 MIAA) on Wednesday.
Four Hillcats finished in double figures on the night. Jordan Lewis led RSU with 19 points to go with two steals, a rebound and a block. Kaya Goldsby added 12 points with three rebounds, two steals and an assist. Bailey Kliewer put up 11 points with six rebounds. Kamryn Estell finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds along with two assists.
Chloe Martin started the game with a four-point play to give the Hillcats and early 4-0 lead. However, the Bronchos answered back with a 15-4 run to take a 15-8 lead. RSU battled back to retake the lead 21-20 and carried at 23-22 lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter was tight to start as both sides traded shots in the opening moments with five lead changes in the first three-plus minutes. UCO began to pull away with a 8-0 run to push back out to a 35-28 lead. They eventually took a 40-34 advantage into the break.
The Bronchos kept the momentum rolling in the second half as they took their first double digit lead with a 14-4 run, going up 54-38. The Hillcats refused to go down as they battled back to cut the deficit to 61-51 headed into the final 10 minutes.
In fourth quarter, RSU kept fighting but every time they began to build some momentum, UCO cut it off. However, the Hillcats eventually were able to put together a 9-0 run to pull within three points at 71-68 with 2:27 left. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they would get as the Bronchos salted the game away with made free throws to take the 78-69 victory.
RSU will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 18 as they travel to Wichita, Kan. for the regular season road finale against Newman. Tip off is set for 1:30 p.m.
