CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (6-5-2, 4-3 MIAA) tallied shutout No. 5 of the season as the Hillcats defeated Nebraska Kearney (2-9-2, 1-3-2 MIAA) Friday night at Soldier Field.
Â
Two Hillcats scored goals in the contest.
Liberty Doyle scored her first goal of the season in the first half. In the second half,
Alix Tirado scored off an assist from
Mackenzie Smith, and was Tirado's fifth goal of the season.
Tiffany Brittan (5-5) made five saves and posted her four clean sheet of the season.
Â
In the first half, both teams took lots of shots, but RSU edged out the Lopers 7-6. Right before halftime,
Morgan Martucci took a shot, but it bounced off the post. Doyle was in perfect position to score putting the Hillcats in front 1-0 off the rebound in the 43rd minute.
Â
During the second half, RSU maintained its aggressive offensive pressure as they outshot UNK 6-4. As the second half came to a close, it seemed like the game would end in a 1-0 victory. But Tirado had something to say about that assumption, as she recorded her fifth goal of the season when she scored in the 86th minute off a Smith assist. UNK ran out of time to mount a comeback, which resulted in an Hillcat victory. This marks back-to-back wins for the Rogers State as they beat Missouri Southern 2-1 last  Sunday. Â
Â
RSU will return to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 15 as they take on Fort Hays State, which is the second game of their four game homestand. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
