CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's soccer (3-2-1) took down Newman (0-6) in a 2-0 non-conference matchup on Sunday.

Two Hillcats found their way onto the scoresheet in the win. Both
Vanessa Gonzalez and
Mackenzie Smith scored their first goals of the season.
Tiffany Brittan (3-0-1) continued to be stellar in goal as she increased her shutout streak to four and only had to make one save on the day.

RSU wasted no time applying offensive pressure to the Jets out of the gate as the Hillcats fired in four shots, with two on goal, in the first five minutes.
Vanessa Gonzalez finally broke through in the 14th minute as she found pay dirt and giving RSU and early 1-0 lead. The Hillcats continued to pepper in balls throughout the half as they outshot Newman 16-2 in the period, with six shots on goal.

The Hillcats started fast again in the second half as
Mackenzie Smith knocked in a goal just 24 seconds into the period to put RSU up 2-0. The Hillcats cranked up the defensive effort even more only allowing the Jets their one shot on goal in the match, compared to RSU's 15 total shots and five shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.

The Hillcats will return to action on Friday, Sept. 16 as they travel to Edmond, Okla. for the non-conference finale against Central Oklahoma. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
