No. 4 Hillcats Sweep Missouri Southern

CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 4 Rogers State softball (25-2, 5-0 MIAA) continued to roll as they swept Missouri Southern (16-14, 4-3 MIAA) in two hard fought games of a doubleheader on Saturday.

GAME ONE - RSU 1, MSSU 0

The first game of the afternoon was the dictionary definition of an extremely contested pitcher's duel with both starters refusing to give up a run through the first four innings and only allowing a hit apiece through the first three frames.

Elexis Watson would strike the deciding blow in the fifth inning as she scored the game's only run with a solo shot to straightaway center field.

Andrea Morales (15-1) was nearly untouchable in the circle for RSU as she earned the complete game shutout with nine strikeouts and only allowed one hit in the first inning with no walks. The Lions' Kara Amos (7-7) suffered the loss but was also excellent as well, only allowing the one run and scattering five hits with three strikeouts.

GAME TWO - RSU 6, MSSU 3

The second game was a bit more offensive-friendly as the Hillcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. After two hits and a walk loaded the bases with one out, Callie Yellin cleared them with a three RBI triple to the right field corner bringing in Marissa Smith, Jackie Zaferes and Kimberli Presnell.

MSSU got two runs back in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 3-2. The first run scored on a RBI single to third, with the other run scoring on a RBI groundout to the shortstop.

RSU sealed the 6-3 victory with three final runs in the sixth inning. Elexis Watson uncorked a towering two-run moonshot over the left field wall plating Presnell. Rylee DeLozier later brought in Nicole Price with a RBI single up the middle.

M'Kayla Hillman (8-1) earned the complete game win going 7.0 innings with four strikeouts. Bailey Lacy (7-6) took the loss.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Tuesday, March 29 as they step out of conference and travel to Russellville, Ark. for a doubleheader against Arkansas Tech. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
