CONROE, Texas – Rogers State softball (5-1) split the final day of the Houston Classic with a loss to No. 18 Angelo State (5-1) and a five-inning win over Texas Woman's (1-4) on Monday.

GAME ONE – No. 18 ASU 9, RSU 4

In the first game of the day, the Hillcats went to work going up 2-0 in the first inning.
Jaylan Gibson got on with an infield single to start things off.
Elexis Watson cleared the bases with her first home run of the season over the right center field wall.

RSU added another run in the second to go up 3-0 as
Abbey Rogers got in on the fun with solo homer of her own to the left field corner.
Â
The Rambelles answered in the top of the third to tie things up at 3-3. A three-run bomb to right center put ASU on the board.

ASU took its first lead of the game in the fourth inning, going up 4-3 on an RBI single to left center. However, the Hillcats answered in the bottom half as
Lana Gass drove in
Rebecca Bell with an RBI double to left.

The Rambelles broke the tie in the top of the fifth as two runs scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. They expanded their lead out to 9-4 in the top of the sixth with another three-run homer to left center. RSU got a run back in the bottom of the fifth as
Jackie Zaferes came home on an
Abbey Rogers sacrifice fly to center.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Hillcats tried to mount a comeback but were only able to get to runs to cut deficit to 9-7.
Makayla Bowman and
Bridgett Morales hit back-to-back home runs in the inning.

Torrey Hogan (3-0) earned the win with Genesis Armendariz (2) earning the save.
M'Kayla Hillman (2-1) took her first loss of the season.

GAME TWO – RSU 11, TWU 0
Â
The Hillcats dominated the second game picking up two runs in the first two innings. In the first inning, an
Abbey Rogers single up the middle and brought home
Makayla Bowman.
Jessica Watson scored on a sacrifice fly to right from
Tailee Reding in the second inning.
Â
RSU exploded for four runs in the third inning to go up 6-0. Rogers got it started with a RBI double to right center that scored
Rebecca Bell. Errors by the second baseman and shortstop plated
Kimberli Presnell,
Marissa Smith and
Callie Yellin.
Â
The Hillcats put the game away with five runs in the fourth inning to seal the 11-0 win. A Bowman RBI triple down the left field line brought home
Jaylan Gibson. Bowman scored on a sacrifice fly from
Elexis Watson. Presnell brought in Smith with an RBI single. An RBI triple to left from
Natalie Gonzalez plated Presnell. Gonzalez later scored on a RBI double from Yellin.

Andrea Morales (3-0) earned the win with nine strikeouts and four hits. Jalee McDonald (1-1) took the loss.

The Hillcats will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 11 as they travel to Edmond, Okla. to face off against Southwestern Oklahoma State in the UCO/OC Invitational. First pitch is set for 2:15 p.m.
