Box Score 2 CONROE, Texas – Rogers State softball (2-0) opened the 2022 season with two wins over Colorado School of Mines and No.18 Angelo State.

Game One – RSU 6, Mines 3
Â
In the first game, both pitching staffs worked scoreless frames through the first two innings with both scattering a hit apiece.

Mines got on the board first in the bottom of the third with a two RBI single through the right side of the infield to go up 2-0.
Â
RSU got a run back in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1.
Lana Gass tripled to right to drive in
Marissa Smith. However, the Orediggers pushed back out to 3-1 as a runner on third scored on a stolen base attempt from a runner on first.

In the top of the fifth, the Hillcats tied the game at 3-3.
Jaylan Gibson doubled to right center scoring
Nicole Price and
Chelsea Spain. They took the lead for the first time in the sixth as Price singled to second base and Spain scored on an error by the second baseman.

RSU sealed the win in the sixth inning with two runs.
Elexis Watson singled up the middle to get the inning started.
Abbey Rogers later walked to put runners on first and second.
Kimberli Presnell reached first on an error plating
Callie Yellin, who pinch ran for Rogers, and Watson.

M'Kayla Hillman (1-0) went the distance and earned the win, striking out four and only walking two with two earned runs. Taylor Wayne (0-10) suffered the loss.

Game Two – RSU 7, No. 18 ASU 3
Â
Rogers State wasted no time going to work against the No. 18 Rambelles, scoring four runs in the first inning.
Tailee Reding,
Makayla Bowman and
Elexis Watson all walked to load the bases.
Chelsea Spain singled up the middle and advanced to second on an error by the catcher bringing home Reding and Bowman.
Bridgett Morales reached first on a throwing error by shortstop that scored Watson and Spain.

They tacked on another run in the top of the second to go up 5-0. Bowman doubled to left, scoring Reding.

Angelo State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 5-1 as a run scored from third on a groundout to second.

In the top of the fifth, RSU increased their lead to 7-1.
Rebecca Bell scored on a wild pitch. Spain drove in
Kimberli Presnell with a sacrifice bunt.

The Rambelles tried to mount a comeback adding runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the deficit to 7-3, but that was as close as they got.

Andrea Morales (1-0) pitched a complete game and earned the win with 12 strikeouts, three walks and three earned runs. Genesis Armendariz (0-1) suffered the loss.

The Hillcats are back in action tomorrow as they face of against Texas A&M International and St. Mary's. First pitches are set for 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
