CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (11-16, 7-14 MIAA) took down Newman (2-24, 0-20 MIAA) in a 69-56 game on Homecoming Saturday.
Four Hillcats finished in double digits. Bailey Kliewer led the way with 16 points in addition to four rebounds, two assists and a steal. Vanessa Gajdosova put up 14 points with a team-high six rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block. Jordan Lewis added 13 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Kylee Day contributed 12 points and a team-high six rebounds.
RSU started the game on fire as they out scored the Jets 20-11 in the first quarter. They were able to build out to their largest lead of the game at 29-13 with 5:37 left in the half. However, Newman came alive late in the half as they rallied to cut the deficit to 31-22 headed to the locker rooms.
The Jets carried that momentum into the second half as went on a 18-3 run to start the third quarter and took their first and largest lead at 40-34. The Hillcats responded with a 5-0 run to close out the period only trailing 40-39.
In the fourth quarter, RSU began to reassert its dominance with a 12-3 run to open the final 10 minutes and jump back in front 51-43. The Hillcats continued to string together runs and closed out the game with a 15-3 stretch for the 69-56 victory.
RSU will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 26 as they close out the 2022 regular season at home against Northeastern State on Senior Day. Tipoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
