Home Runs Propel Hillcats to Road Doubleheader Sweep of Nebraska-Kearney

Kearney-Neb. – Rogers State softball sweep and two run rule victories over the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers in an MIAA doubleheader matchup at Dryden Park on Saturday afternoon.
 
GAME ONE

How It Happened
  • Rogers State would strike fast in the first inning, as the Hillcats scored four runs. A double to left center field from Makayla Bowman would force an error from the Loper center fielder to allow Tailee Reding in to score the game's first run. Two batters later, Abigail Taylor would hit an RBI double to left field to send Bowman home.
  • Lana Gass would then hit her third homerun in her freshman campaign to give the Hillcats their third and fourth runs of the opening inning.
  • The Hillcats would keep the scoring going in the second inning, as they would add five more runs. With the count full at 3-2 Jaylan Gibson would hit an RBI single to right field to send in Sabrina Anguiano. Reding then hit an RBI single of her own to center field and send in Brielle Tyseling for the sixth run of the game.
  • Later in the second inning, Taylor would ground out the short stop, which allowed Reding to score from third for another Hillcat run. The final two runs of the second inning came after Elexis Watson hit a two RBI single to center, which scored both Danielle Day and Bowman.
  • The Lopers would get on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Kayie Gosker was able to homer down the left field line.
  • Neither teams were able to score until the fifth inning, when Rogers State was able to lock in the run rule with eight runs.
  • The first two runs of the eighth came after Reding hit an RBI double to left field, scoring Tyseling and Jackie Zaferes. Reding would score off an RBI single to center field for Day.
  • Taylor would add on to her total, as she hit an RBI double to center field, which helped pinch runner Faren Walker score the 13th run. Gass would finish off her impressive game one stat line with a two RBI single to left center, which would allow pinch runner Kimberli Presnell and Day to score.
  • The final two runs of the game came after Anguiano hit an RBI to left center to score Gass, and Tyseling hit an RBI single to center field to score Anguiano.
Game Notes
  • Gass went a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks from the plate in game one, with four RBIs and two runs in game one of the double-header.
  • Anguiano went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
  • Tyseling went 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI, and a walk.
  • Reding went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBIs, and a walk from the plate in game one.
  • Day had a 1-for-3 game one from the plate with two runs, an RBI, and a walk.
  • Morales picked up her 17th win of the season, as she had five strikeouts in four innings pitched.
  • Rogers State outhit Nebraska-Kearney 16-5.
  • The Hillcats walked six times at the plate, while the Lopers only walked once.

How It Happened
  • The Hillcats would strike early with a solo home run to left field by Bowman in the top of the first.
  • The Lopers answered with a sacrifice fly RBI in the bottom of the first inning.
  • In the second, Anguiano hit her first home run of the season, bringing around Watson and Gass as RSU went up 4-1.
  • Bowman would add another home run in the top of the second, hitting a three-run shot as Reding and Tyseling were also on base.
  • The next run came after Gass hit a groundout RBI to the ss, allowing Day to score from third. The eighth and final run of the second inning came after Watson singled to left field, scoring Taylor.
  • Reding would add the final run of the game, after she scored off of an RBI single down the left field line by Day in the third inning, putting Rogers State up 10-1.
Game Notes
  • Bowman went 2-for-3 from the plate in the game with four RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Day went 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI, and a walk.
  • Watson went a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate with a run scored, an RBI, and a walk.
  • Anguiano went 1-for-3 with three RBI's and a run scored.
  • Reading finished with a pair of runs in game two.
  • Morales picked up her 18th victory in the season with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.

Rogers State will return home to the Diamond Sports Complex next Friday April, 30 to take on Emporia State in a MIAA conference doubleheader matchup. First pitch in game one is set for 3 p.m.
