CLAREMORE, Okla. – Rogers State women's basketball (4-2) knocked off Ouachita Baptist (1-2) 82-71 in the non-conference finale on Saturday. With the win, RSU is off to its best start since beginning 5-2 in the 2015-16 season.
Four Hillcats finished in double figures. Bailey Kliewer led the squad with a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds along with three steals and two assists. Vanessa Gajdosova posted 15 points with eight assists, seven rebounds and a block. Jordan Lewis missed a double-double by one rebound with 14 points and nine rebounds to go with three assists and a steal. Katrina Christian contributed 12 points, seven rebounds, three steals and an assist.
RSU came out on fire as they opened the game on a 14-4 run in the first quarter. They took their largest lead of the period at 18-6 with three and half minutes remaining, but the Tigers erased the large margin with a 9-0 run to pull within 18-15. The Hillcats eventually took a 22-19 lead into the final 10 minutes of the half.
The second quarter was all RSU as they out scored OBU 28-13 in the period. They closed out the half on a 15-3 run to take a 50-32 advantage into the locker room.
The Hillcats continued to roll early in the third quarter as the took their largest lead of the game at 57-34 at 6:30 in the period. The Tigers battled and managed to outscored RSU 20-16 in the period and cut the lead to 66-52 headed into the fourth quarter.
In the final 10 minutes, the Hillcats pushed the lead out to 74-55 as a result of the 8-3 run to start the period. However, OBU responded with a 12-2 run to trim the deficit to 76-69, but that would be as close as they would get. The Hillcats retook control and took the victory 82-11.
RSU will be back in action on Thursday, Dec. 2 as they travel to St. Joseph, Mo. to open up MIAA play against Missouri Western. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
