Late Offensive Explosion Powers Hillcats To Win Over Northeastern State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Late offensive fireworks powered Rogers State women's soccer (9-7-1, 4-6 MIAA) to a 2-0 win over Northeastern State (7-7-3, 4-5-1 MIAA) in the regular season home finale on Friday.

Both Vanessa Gonzalez and Kori Watters connected on the goals in the victory. Savannah Harvey was excellent in goal as she earned her third shutout of the season with three saves.

The Hillcats put the defensive pressure on NSU in the opening half, out shooting them 8-2. RSU had opportunities to get on the board in the period, but couldn't get anything to fall. Things stood scoreless going into the intermission.

The final period seemed to play out like the first, with the Hillcats out shooting the Rivercats 7-5. With five minutes left in regulation, RSU finally broke through as Gonzalez put an end to the stalemate in the 85th minute off a pass from Desiree Morgas to put the Hillcats up 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Morgas served up another pass this time to Watters, who drove home the ball to seal the 2-0 victory for RSU in the 87th minute.

The Hillcats will close out the regular season on Sun. Oct. 31 as they travel to Edmond, Okla. for one more date with Central Oklahoma. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
