Hillcats Continue Roaring Start With 2-0 Win Over Cal State San Bernardino

ST. GEORGE, UtahBria Salazar and Hannah Mushisky scored their first goals of the season as Rogers State defeated California State San Bernardino 2-0 Saturday morning at Dixie State University's Trailblazer Stadium.

The Hillcats improved to 2-0 on the season and have started 2019 without allowing a goal in 180 minutes following another cleansheet from junior ReVella Fisher.

Salazar put the Hillcats ahead in the first half, collecting a pass from the right side by Thursday's goalscorer Laurelle Theodore, before settling it down to fire a shot past Carly Luna from the top of the box.

Shots were even over the first 45 minutes with both teams recording six efforts and four on target. Fisher made four saves in the first half to help Rogers State carry a 1-0 lead into the break.

The Hillcats controlled the majority of the second half, outshooting Cal State San Bernardino 9-3 over the final 45 minutes.

Mushisky would seal the victory for the Hillcats on the 66-minute mark after a battering of shots from RSU. Mushisky initially started the run of shots for RSU with an effort that beat Luna but hit the post.

Kori Watters would collect the ball off the post but her shot was blocked by Luna before Mushisky collected the rebound and slotted it past Luna for Rogers State's second goal.

Fisher would be called into action twice in the second half and finished with two more saves to preserve her second shutout in as many games to begin the season.

The Hillcats finished with 15 shots in the game, four each from Mushisky and Theodore.

Sydney Connelly was one of three players and the only Hillcat to be cautioned in the game, receiving a yellow card in the 81st minute. Two Coyotes received yellow cards in the game.

Rogers State will remain on the road for its next game, traveling to the Dallas-Metro area of Denton to face Texas Woman's University on September 12. The Hillcats will kickoff against the Pioneers at 5 p.m. at Pioneer Soccer Park.
