WICHITA, Kan. – Rogers State Softball split its doubleheader on Tuesday with Newman, taking game one 7-6 before falling in game two 6-1.
In game one, the Hillcats would fall behind in the third as Newman executed the squeeze, trading an out for a run.
Rogers State would respond in the fourth as
Allie McFetridge singled home
Danelle Day. Later in the inning,
Abigail Taylor hit a two-run home run to put the Hillcats ahead 3-1.
In the fifth inning, the Hillcats would extend their lead as Day hit a two-run double, scoring Waggnor and
Tailee Reding. McFetridge would hit a solo home run later in the inning, as Rogers State went ahead 6-1.
Newman would respond in the bottom of the fifth with a two-RBI double followed by a three-run home run to tie the game at 6.
The Hillcats would go back in front in the sixth inning, as
Faren Walker scored on an error by the catcher to put Rogers State ahead 7-6.
Despite allowing two hits in the seventh,
Andrea Morales kept the hosts scoreless to earn her 22
nd victory of the season.
In game two, the Hillcats fell behind in the second as the Jets would score four runs on four hits in the second inning.
Katelyn Gamble would score the only run of the game for RSU in the third, coming around on McFetridge's single.
Newman would add two more runs in the fourth, while keeping the Hillcats scoreless over the final four innings.
Rogers State will return to action on Thursday, traveling to Oklahoma City to take on Oklahoma Christian in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
