Hillcats Shut Out Texas A&M International In Doubleheader Sweep

CLAREMORE, Okla.Andrea Morales and Tailee Reding combined for 14 scoreless innings while Danelle Day homered in each game as the Rogers State Softball team defeated Texas A&M International in a pair of Heartland Conference games at the Diamond Sports Complex.

Day hit a solo home run to left center in the bottom of the first inning and that would be all that Morales needed to lead the Hillcats to a 1-0 victory in game one.

Morales held the DustDevils to just three hits and did not allow a walk in her league-leading 18th victory of the season. Morales had seven strikeouts in the game and did not allow anyone past second base.

The Hillcats struggled offensively as well the rest of the game, as Sierra Skaggs was the only other player besides Day to get a hit. Abigail Taylor and Allie McFetridge each had a walk in the first game.

In game two, Reding was given the ball in the circle and she matched Morales as she too tossed a complete game shutout. Reding scattered just four hits and did not allow a walk while striking out three batters.

The DustDevils never made it beyond second base in game two as well.

Redding had to wait longer for run support, but it came off the bat of Day again, this time coming on a third-inning home run that was a line drive shot over the left field fence in the third inning.

The Hillcats would add one more run later in the third inning as Mikayla Waggnor scored on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Santistevan.

Day finished with two hits in game two, while Jaylan Gibson, Sierra Skaggs, Faren Walker and Katelyn Gamble also recorded hits. McFetridge and Skaggs also had walks.

With the win, the Hillcats secure the series victory, as well as the season-series victory over Texas A&M International after the two teams split a doubleheader in Laredo last week.

The final game of the series is set for a noon start on Saturday at the Diamond Sports Complex.
