COMMERCE, Texas – The Rogers State Softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to No. 14 ranked Texas A&M Commerce on Tuesday at John Cain Family Field. The Hillcats fell in game one 2-0 before dropping the second game 7-1.
Andrea Morales pitched well in defeat in game one, allowing just one earned run on five hits while striking out seven batters.
The first hit against her was a homerun in the second inning, as the hosts took the lead.
Rogers State would have their chance to tie the game or take the lead, loading the bases in the top of the fifth. However, the Hillcats would strand the bases loaded in their best chance.
Texas A&M Commerce took advantage of an error on a bunt in the sixth, as the runner came all the way around to score on the only other run of the game.
In game two, the Hillcats gifted two runs in the first inning on two errors. The Lions would add two more runs with a two-out, two-run homerun in the second.
In the third inning, another error by the Hillcats provided a run for the hosts, who would score once more in the inning. Texas A&M Commerce would add its final run in the fourth after a walk, stolen base and eventually a sac fly.
The Hillcats scored their only run of the day in the sixth inning as
Jaylan Gibson hit a solo shot down the left field line.
Edie Fairchild got the loss, allowing five runs, only two earned, in two innings of work.
Tailee Reding pitched well in relief for RSU, retiring all nine batters faced in order with four strikeouts.
The Hillcats will return to action on Friday, looking to rebound as they Texas A&M International in the first two games of a three-game series at the Diamond Sports Complex. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. in the doubleheader on Friday.
