EDMOND, Okla. – The Rogers State Softball team continued their run of dominant performances at the Edmond Regional Festival on Sunday, defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State 2-0 and East Central 9-3.
In game one, the Hillcats took the lead on
Taylor Santistevan's solo homerun in the third inning. Santistevan sent an 0-1 pitch over the right center field fence.
Santistevan would score the Hillcats' insurance run in the fifth inning, as she scored on a
Tailee Reding single to left field.
The Hillcats would only need one run, as
Bailey Killough and
Andrea Morales combined for a three-hit shutout. Killough tossed 5.2 innings, giving up three hits and four walks, while striking out three in the win.
Morales picked up a four-out save, forcing a pair of fly outs, while striking out two.
In game two, the Hillcats would go behind as East Central scored a run in the second and third, both on RBI doubles.
The Hillcats would load the bases in the third inning and
Mikayla Waggnor scored on a
Jaylan Gibson walk. However, Rogers State would fail to score again in the inning.
East Central would go up by two in the fifth inning, taking advantage of an error.
The Hillcats would get the offense rolling in the bottom of the fifth inning, plating seven runs to take a commanding lead.
With the bases loaded,
Abigail Taylor brought two runs home with a ball in play that was misplayed by the third baseman.
Taylor Malett then doubled to score Gibson. Malett would then score with Taylor on Reding's two-RBI single through the left side.
Waggnor would cap off the inning with a homerun down the left field line, bringing around Reding to put the Hillcats up 8-3.
In the sixth inning,
Rylee DeLozier added one more run for the Hillcats with a single to score
Sierra Skaggs.
Morales tossed all seven innings, allowing six hits with seven strikeouts.
Rogers State will wrap up the Edmond Regional Festival with a single game on Monday against Cameron. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
