Connelly Nets First Career Goal In Hillcat Loss at Northwest Missouri

MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Rogers State Women's Soccer team fell to Northwest Missouri State 3-1 Friday afternoon in MIAA play at Bearcat Pitch.
 
The Hillcats fell behind early and were unable to recover, as Northwest Missouri State scored three times inside the first 16 minutes of the game. Izzy Romano put the Bearcats ahead in the fourth minute.
 
The hosts would add two more goals in the 13th and 16th minutes, as Taylor Wolfe and Tanith Beal scored for the Bearcats.
 
Sydney Connelly would get a goal back for the Hillcats late in the 89th minute. Bria Salazar played a ball back to the left back, who smashed a shot from about 40 yards into the top right corner.
 
The goal was Connelly's first career collegiate goal in her 30th game for the navy and red. It was Salazar's first assist
 
The Hillcats would have four shots in the first half, including a shot off the post from near the penalty spot by Hannah Mushisky in the 25th minute. However, the Hillcats were unable to pull back a goal before heading into the half.
 
In the second half, the Hillcats would test Alex Serna Castillo four times. Janell Hernandez had a pair of shots on target in the 51st and 75th minutes. Maggie Brown also forced Serna Castillo into a save in the 87th minute.
 
ReVella Fisher would finish the game with nine saves.
 
Rogers State will return to action on Sunday, traveling to St. Joseph, Missouri to take on Missouri Western. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. against the Griffins.
