CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State women's soccer team fell, 2-1, in overtime to Texas A&M International as the Dustdevils scored a golden goal late in the first period of overtime to get the win in Heartland Conference action on Thursday (Oct. 18) at Soldier Field.
The Dustdevils (3-10, 2-9 Heartland Conference) tallied the game-winning golden goal on a free kick from about 40 yards to the top left corner of the goal for a 2-1 win in the 98th minute. Porscha Miseles-Huff netted the game-winner for TAMIU.
The Hillcats (7-6-2, 4-5-2 Heartland Conference) gained a 1-0 lead on the Dustdevils late in the contest due to an own goal in the 82nd minute. A Dustdevil defender headed in the ball over the top of the goalkeeper for the own goal.
TAMIU leveled the score at 1-1 with about two minutes left in regulation. RSU committed a foul in the box to give the Dustdevils a penalty kick. Cio Bargallo converted the PK to tie the game at 1-1.
For the game, RSU held a 12-5 advantage in shots, including a 5-1 first-half edge. The navy and red put five shots on goal compared to three from TAMIU.
Taylor Sargent went nearly 98 minutes in goal. She made one save with the two goals allowed.
RSU continues to hold the fifth spot in the Heartland Conference standings, one spot out of making the league tournament. The navy and red are seven points back from the fourth and final spot with only three league games to go.
