AUSTIN, Texas – The Rogers State women's soccer team fell on a late goal at Heartland Conference-leading St. Edward's in a 1-0 loss at Lewis-Chen Field in a Heartland Conference contest.
The Hilltoppers (8-3-2, 8-1-1 Heartland Conference) scored the game-winning tally in the 79th minute when Sarah Gunderson scored from the right side for a 1-0 score for host SEU.
After a slow start to the first half with only five total shots, the second half turned in favor of the St. Edward's as the Hilltoppers outshot the Hillcats (7-5-2, 4-4-2 Heartland) 13-3. In the game, SEU held a 16-5 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal.
Freshman
Kori Watters tallied a team-high two shots and the only shot on goal for the navy and red.
Maggie Brown,
Bailey Jarvis and Mirando Campos added shots for RSU.
For the game, senior goalkeeper
Taylor Sargent totaled four saves and allowed the one goal in 90 minutes.
SEU's Annabel Sweeney got the shutout win in goal with one save in 90 minutes.
With the 4-4-2 record in Heartland Conference play, the Hillcats rank fifth in the standings, one spot from making the Heartland Conference Tournament.
The Hillcats return home for three of their final four games of the regular season on Thursday (Oct. 18) with Texas A&M International at 5 p.m. at Soldier Field. Live stats and live streaming will be available.
