CLAREMORE, Okla. – The Rogers State softball team scored two late runs, but couldn't overcome an 11-run deficit to fall, 11-2, to No. 10 St. Mary's on Sunday (March 13) at the Diamond Sports Complex. The marathon game took more than four hours due to two weather delays.
For the third straight game, the Rattlers totaled runs in the first inning. StMU plated three to gain the early 3-0 advantage. The runs scored on a three-run homer by Raynelle Nash.
Another home run in the third inning upped the lead to 5-0 after a two-run shot.
The Rattlers continued to pour on runs in the late innings, tallying six in the sixth and seventh innings. An error in the sixth allowed one run to score. Five runs came in the seventh inning. Sydney Wellmann hit her fourth home run of the weekend, a grand slam, for four of the runs. An RBI single also plated a run in the inning.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, RSU scored two runs. The Cats used five straight singles to move around the bases. Singles from
Katelyn Gamble,
Ashleigh Stidman and
Morgen Blanchard loaded up the bases.
Katlin Alexander put a run on the scoreboard with an RBI single to bring home Gamble.
Jamie Kowalick plated the second run with a single to right field to score Stidman.
After a second weather delay of more than an hour, StMU ended the game with the bases loaded for the 11-2 score.
Stidman continued to have a strong weekend going 3-for-4 at the plate. Alexander went 2-for-4 with one RBI. RSU totaled 11 hits despite only scoring two runs.
