LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Rogers State women's soccer team was doomed by a pair of late goals on the road at Colorado Christian Monday afternoon falling 2-0 at Trailblazer Stadium.
After a scoreless opening stanza, the Cougars (1-0-1 overall) broke the deadlock in the 74th minute when Tristyn Hall headed a cross from Becca Hansen past RSU goalkeeper
Teri Cocke. It was the first goal of the season for CCU after playing to a scoreless draw in its opener Saturday.
With the Hillcats seeking a late equalizer, the Cougars' Danielle Gershon tallied an insurance goal in the 84th minute assisted by Rachael Berberovich. CCU outshot RSU by an 8-0 margin in the second half, turning the tide of the contest in its favor, and 11-2 for the game.
Cocke took the loss for the Hillcats despite making six saves while Claire LaValley got the win for CCU turning aside two shots. The loss marked the third-consecutive match the Hillcats were shutout opening the season.
