LIBERTY, Mo. - The Rogers State women's soccer team dropped a 6-1 decision on the road at William Jewell on Tuesday afternoon.
The Hillcats were unable to contain the Cardinal offense as they took the lead in the seventh minute of play with a breakaway goal from Lea Maxwell. The junior doubled the WJC lead in the 19
th minute to give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage at intermission.
WJC scored two quick goals in the first five minutes of the second half to push the deficit to 4-0.Â
Jianna Cervantes put the Hillcats on the board with a header off a cross from
Blair Thomas in the 59
th minute. The Cardinals answered with goals in the 61
st and 65
th minute to seal the win.
Teri Cocke suffered the loss in goal, making five saves while allowing six goals.
Taylor Hallford made one save in the final 20 minutes of action. Jordan Lewis earned the win for WJC , making seven saves while allowing one goal.Â
Rogers State (0-9-0) returns to action on Saturday as the Hillcats kickoff the Heartland Conference slate at home against St. Mary's. The game is set for 5 p.m. and fans are encouraged to wear red and "red out" Soldier Field.
