Rangers Hold Off Hillcats

CLAREMORE, Okla.- Despite a strong second half showing, the Rogers State women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss Sunday afternoon to Northwestern Oklahoma State at Soldier Field in Claremore.

After trailing 2-0 at intermission, the Hillcats controlled the pace of the game in the second stanza. Blair Thomas tallied her team-leading third goal of the season to put the Hillcats on the board in the 50th minute. Jianna Cervantes threaded the ball through the defense to Thomas who buried it past the keeper.

The Hillcats held the Rangers to just four shots with two on goal in the second half while RSU took 14 shots with six on frame. However, NWOSU sealed the win in the 74th minute as Leidiane Capobianco slid the ball past the keeper, near post.

The Rangers took an early lead in the first frame, netting a pair of goals in the first 25 minutes of play. Alyssa Williams put NWOSU on the board in the 14th minute as she finished a cross from Ellen Trotter that RSU goalkeeper Teri Cocke was unable to corral. Trotter doubled the Ranger lead, slipping the ball past the keeper in the 25th minute.

Cocke suffered the loss making four saves while allowing three goals. Briana Legaspi made seven saves and earned the win in goal.
