OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Rogers State women's basketball team's comeback bid fell short on Thursday night at Oklahoma Christian as the Eagles earned a 86-71 win over the Hillcats at the Eagles Nest.
The Hillcats outscored the Eagles 12-6 to end the game but it wasn't enough to overcome the 21-point deficit.
The teams traded buckets to start the game but the Eagles jumped out to a 10-point lead thanks to a 9-0 run with 10 minutes to play in the half. RSU battled back with an 8-0 run capped with consecutive three-pointers by DaNara Day. However, the Hillcats went cold over the final 10 minutes of the half as OC outscored RSU 19-4 to take a 41-25 lead into the locker room at the break.
It was an uphill climb for the Hillcats in the second stanza, unable to make a dent in the deficit until the final three minutes of the game. RSU forced four turnovers and tallied a trio of steals down the stretch, but ran out of time, allowing the Eagles to sweep the Heartland Conference series.
Katy Harsen led RSU with 15 points on the night. She was joined in double digit scoring by Clarissa Cannon with 14 points and Day with 11 points. RSU struggled on offense, shooting just 48 percent from the free throw line and 40 percent from the field.
Krista Stevens led five Eagles (13-10, 10-7 HC) in double digits, scoring 13 points. OC won the battle on the boards 50-33.
Rogers State (8-16, 5-13 HC) will return to action at the Claremore Expo on Thursday against Oklahoma Panhandle State at 5:30 p.m. RSU will honor the four women's basketball seniors after the game as they round out their careers on the Hill. The first 750 fans will receive a free Hunter the Hillcat bobblehead, sporting golf attire. The game will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live and on RSU Radio 91.3 FM.
