No. 5 Stars Sweep No. 22 Softball Cats

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State softball team rounded out the regular season on Tuesday night as the Hillcats dropped a pair of contests to No. 5 Oklahoma City at the Diamond Sports Complex.

The fifth-ranked Stars scattered 16 hits across seven inning to earn a 10-2 victory in the opening game of the doubleheader. In the nightcap, OCU took a quick lead but the Hillcats clawed within reach of the advantage. However, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities, falling 8-6.

GAME ONE

The Stars took an early advantage and cruised to a 10-2 victory in game one. A four-run second got things started for OCU and they added two runs in the third and one in the fourth to make it a 7-0 game.

RSU avoided the shutout in the fifth frame as Tory Fitch and Ashlie Fauchier strung together consecutive two-out singles to keep the inning alive. Jamie King drove Fitch in with a double in the left-center gap.

The Hillcats loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth but managed to plate just one run with a sacrifice fly by pinch hitter Desiree Ayarzagoitia.

The Stars sealed the win in the ninth with a trio of runs. RSU left eight base runners stranded over the final four inning of the game.

Linsey Curtis (0-3) was tagged with the loss as she allowed 10 runs on 16 hits with one strikeout. Jamie Rateliff (19-2) registered the complete-game win as she allowed two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

OCU registered a quick 4-0 lead in the nightcap with a pair of runs in each of the first two frames. They increased the deficit to five runs in the fourth before RSU dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame.

The Hillcats batted around in the fourth as they tallied four runs in the inning. Ashlie Fauchier put the Hillcats on the scoreboard with a RBI single to left field. Ashlee Dillman scored on an OCU error and Cailin Simpson belted a two RBI double down the left field line to cut the deficit to 5-4.

The Stars pushed the lead to 8-4 but the Hillcats continued to battle cutting the deficit to 8-6 in the sixth. King scored on a pass ball and Monigold tallied an RBI single. RSU left seven runners stranded in the contest and failed to record the tying run in the final inning.
