Hillcat Women Edged in Overtime, 3-2

CLAREMORE, Okla. - The Rogers State women's soccer team battled Newman University to a 3-2 overtime loss on Saturday night at Soldier Field.

The evenly matched game ended in heartbreak for the Hillcats in their final game of the season.  The overtime goal marked the first time in the game the Jets held the lead. The Hillcats opened the game with a 1-0 advantage as sophomore Taylor Geissler scored in the 10th minute of play. The ball was knocked around the box and fell at the feat of Taylor James at the top of the box. James dished the ball to Geissler who blasted it past the keeper. It was the Owasso, Okla. native's first goal of the season.

The Jets earned the equalizer in the 24th minute of play as Jeehye Yi blasted the ball just under the crossbar out of RSU goalkeeper Jordan Harris' reach.

RSU answered just before halftime as Tara Garrett played the ball past the defense for Blair Thomas who sprinted into the box and beat the goalkeeper to the ball, firing it into the net. RSU help onto the 2-1 lead at intermission but NU continue to battle their way back into the game, knotting the score in the 54th minute with a goal by Mei-Mei Senthavy.

Each team had several opportunities to earn the game winning goal in the second stanza. RSU's best opportunity came on a corner kick as Cierra Lohaus headed the ball right under the cross bar but the keeper got her finger tips on the ball and it hit the bottom of the crossbar and the defense was able to clear the ball out of danger.

With neither team able to score the game winning goal in regulation, the contest was sent into overtime. With less than four minutes to play in the first overtime period, the Jets ended the game with a goal by Courtney Galliher who fired the ball past the keeper from the middle of the box.

The Hillcats celebrated four seniors in their final game at Soldier Field. Harris, Lohaus, Loren LeForce and Melissa Subu each made immeasurable contributions to the RSU soccer program during their time at RSU.
