LAREDO, Texas- The Rogers State men's soccer team couldn't overcome a first half deficit as Texas A&M International tallied a 1-0 victory over the Hillcats on Saturday evening.
The Hillcats struggled to find a rhythm in the first half of their Heartland Conference opener as they were retuning to the pitch after 10 days off. Ryan Hodgson put the Dustdevils on the board in the 38th minute of the game. Funcia Kenneh slotted the ball across the face of the goal, allowing Hodgson to burry it in the back of the net.
TAMIU took the one-goal advantage into intermission but the Hillcats regrouped and came out strong in the second stanza. RSU had several chances to score the equalizer but couldn't find the back of the net as Dustdevil goalkeeper Jesus Cisneros made five saves.
RSU put five shots on frame in the contest while TAMIU tallied just two shots on goal. Joey Arnold suffered the loss in goal for RSU while Cisneros earned the win for the Dustdevils.
Rogers State (2-5-0, 0-1-0 HC) will return to action on Monday as the Hillcats look for their first conference win against St. Mary's in San Antonio. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
