SHAWNEE, Okla.- The Rogers State women's basketball team outscored Oklahoma Baptist 12-5 over the final four and a half minutes of the game and registered a 77-69 victory at Noble Complex on Thursday night.
With 10:32 to play in the game the Hillcat held a 13-point advantage. The lead was short-lived as the Lady Bison used a 15-3 run to cut the Cats lead to one point with five minutes remaining. Leah Smith silenced the OBU run with a trey from the elbow, which sparked the 12-5 run that led to the Hillcats win.
The Hillcats took the lead early in the opening frame and built a 13-point advantage with a 13-3 run capped off by a steal and layup by junior Sierra Cornwell with less than nine minutes to play in the half. Coach Amy Williams' squad held on to the lead the rest of the half and took a 41-33 lead into the locker room at the break.
Cornwell tallied six steals for a total of 69 on the season, shattering the single-season record of 65 nabs set by Cortney Crockett a year ago.
In her first career start, junior Madison Harris poured in a career-high 13 points to share the team high on the night with Cornwell and Smith. Ariana Silva rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points. Senior Sasha Barnes dished out a career-high eight assists and added six points.
Lillian Prince led the Lady Bison with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
