CLAREMORE, Okla.- Sophomore Melissa Subu recorded a hat trick and was one of four goal scorers for the Rogers State women's soccer team on Tuesday evening as the Hillcats cruised to a 6-0 victory over Southwestern Christian (Okla.) at Soldier Field. The Hillcats pounded the Eagles goal right from the start and freshman Jordan Beasley put RSU on the board in the 28th minute with her third goal of the season. The Lafayette, La. native headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick from senior Abby Rickner.
Subu registered her first goal of the night in the 39th minute of action. Junior Lauren Hager fired a shot that was deflected by SCU goalkeeper Allie McIntosh and Subu followed up with the goal.
Just two minutes later, Subu struck again. Freshman Blair Thomas dribbled down the line and crossed the ball near post to Subu who snuck a header past the goalkeeper.
RSU took the 3-0 lead into intermission. The Hillcats outshot the Eagles 20-0 in the opening half and put nine shots on frame.
Subu jump started the Hillcat offense in the final half as she added her third goal in the 50th minute. Beasley crossed the ball into the box and Subu headed the ball into the net.
Subu's three goals were her first of the season. The hat trick was also a collegiate first for the Henderson, Nev. native.
Senior Shereen Clarke registered her first goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
Devon Bullard wrapped up the scoring with only seconds remaining in the game off a perfect pass from Cierra Lohaus.
RSU's six goals is a season high and the clean sheet gave the Hillcats their second shutout of the season. Sophomore Chelsea McMullin registered the win in goal as she made three saves in the complete game victory.
Rogers State (2-1-2) will travel to Friends University (Kan.) on Friday evening at 6 p.m. The Hillcats will return to Soldier Field next Thursday, September 29 as they host Wayland Baptist in their Sooner Athletic Conference opener.
